Under Regulation 298A of the National Road Traffic Act, you may drive on the yellow shoulder only on a single-lane carriageway during daylight (between sunrise and sunset) to allow another vehicle traveling faster to overtake, provided persons and vehicles are clearly visible for at least 150 meters ahead. It is strictly forbidden at night, on freeways, or when visibility is poor.
The first vehicle to come to a complete stop behind the white stop line has right of way to proceed first. If two vehicles stop at the exact same moment, standard courtesy applies and priority is yielded to the vehicle on your right.
Under the National Road Traffic Act, general default limits are: 60 km/h in urban areas (towns and cities), 100 km/h on public roads outside urban areas (two-lane rural roads), and 120 km/h on freeways, unless a specific road traffic sign indicates a different limit.
